the championship game came down a bloop infield single that landed fair between home plate and 1B that went foul while in the air but mysteriously landed fair and died on the spot giving Duke runners on first and second. Then the steady Valerie Cagle throws a wild pitch to advance the runners. Then Duke scores on a single to score the game's only run. That's how close the top 4 teams were.
